Driving on a public road in Virginia, one should have auto insurance or a proof that you have sufficient money to pay for any damages due to accidents. This is called the Financial Responsibility. The following are the available options for the the financial responsibility:
1. You need to get a minimum liability coverage in Virginia and register in a licensed insurance company.
2. If you do not have liability coverage, you will need to pay $500 to Department of Motor Vehicle for uninsured motor vehicle fee which allows you to drive your car at your own risk. You will also have to regularly renew your vehicle.
3. Vehicle owners for business purposes needs to secure self insurance bonds to Department of Motor Vehicles.
Without any financial responsibility results to suspension of your driving license. It can be reinstated but you need to pay fees like statutory fee or reinstatement fee etc. There are also certain documents that you need to submit with Department of Motor Vehicles which usually takes three years.
